Description

1999 J/120, 3 owners, the latest since 2017 who has consistently updated and maintained her over the years. Fast and responsive, powerful yet stable, pure magic to sail: this J/120 comes with a carbon racing mast and embodies everything sailing should be. With her deck layout designed for sailing and a spacious cockpit, she is easy to handle offshore but also perfect for racing.

Below decks, the J/120 offers elegant and functional spaces, ideal for both relaxation and sailing. The saloon features two full-length settee berths and a folding varnished wooden table that comfortably seats up to six people. The linear galley, equipped with a double stainless steel sink, large cockpit fridge, and gimbaled gas stove/oven, is conveniently located near the companionway. The forward-facing navigation station provides ample space for charts and electronics, with easily accessible drop-down panels.

Sleeping accommodations include two double cabins (one forward and one aft to starboard) and two heads with marine toilet and shower (one forward ensute and one aft to port)

Thanks to her performance-oriented design, the J/120 has recorded victories in some of the world’s most prestigious offshore races, including the Rolex Fastnet Race, Newport–Bermuda Race, Chicago–Mac Race, Rolex Caribbean 600, and Middle Sea Race. Despite her racing pedigree, this yacht can be easily sailed by a cruising couple or a family crew.

We recently conducted the photo shoot on board, and the boat is now ready to begin a new chapter with her next owner.

RINA 2027

Recent works performed:

  • 2025: New shrouds

  • 2023: New non-slip on deck

**This boat lies in Italy and as such, its sale is subject to Italian customs and practices on yachts brokerage, which state that the agency commission of 10% is paid in half between the seller and the buyer. The sale price published on this site is therefore calibrated so that the seller pays to the broker only 5% and does not include the other 5%, which must be paid directly by the buyer to the broker.

Descriptions provided by the construction site

The J/120's cockpit seat-backs are angled outward for sailing comfort to windward as well as lounging in harbor. It has flared topsides that slap waves down instead of bouncing them up onto the deck. The J/120 has a balanced, not wedged, hull shape with enough reserve buoyancy forward to lift the bow easily over waves when surfing off the wind. Sail controls are within easy reach for trimming mainsail and genoa (or asymmetric spinnaker) on long coastal passages - without leaving the wheel or relocating a safety harness. Two people can fly the asymmetrical to steady the boat and sail fast enough to make port in time for a walk ashore. The J-120's performance is a function of a low center of gravity, a narrow waterline, good draft and a powerful sail area to displacement ratio. A key contributor is high-quality balsa-core laminate construction with 65 to 70 percent glass content achieved with TPI's resin infusion process. And, owners can go one step further by selecting the Hall Spars carbon-fiber mast rather than aluminum. The 120 lbs. saved up high is the equivalent of having two 200 lbs. crew on the weather rail when sailing to windward. Reaching at over 10 knots becomes almost a daily occurrence in a J-120. Two people can safely fly the asymmetrical spinnaker on its 7-foot retractable carbon-fiber J-Sprit. No one has to go on deck when the spinnaker is deployed. It's contained in a snuffer sock operated from the cockpit. Jibing is as easy as letting go the old sheet and pulling in the new one. Sailing downwind, the spinnaker projects out to windward from behind the wind shadow of the mainsail, driving the apparent wind as much as 50 degrees forward of true wind direction. The J-120's boat speed and wind speed are about equal in six knots of wind with a remarkable downwind velocity of nearly two-thirds the wind's speed.
