Description
The Hinckley Sou'wester 51 is a distinguished American sailboat that epitomizes the fusion of classic design and high-performance cruising. Designed by McCurdy & Rhodes and built by Hinckley Yachts beginning in 1984, this 51-foot monohull is revered for its elegant lines, robust construction, and versatile sailing capabilities. Crafted with a fiberglass hull accented by rich wood trim, the Sou'wester 51 features a masthead sloop rig, a fin keel with a retractable centerboard, and a skeg-mounted rudder—making it equally adept in deep ocean passages and shallow coastal waters. With luxurious accommodations for up to five, a well-appointed galley, and proven racing pedigree, the Sou'wester 51 stands as a testament to Hinckley's legacy of blending craftsmanship with seaworthiness in a truly timeless yacht.
NIGHT TRAIN is a 1986 Hinckley Sou'wester 51 with 3 staterooms with accommodations for up to five guests, a spacious and well-designed cockpit, and a beautifully crafted interior finished in teak. Originally commissioned for Bob Hinckley himself, she received special attention in every aspect of design and construction. Night Train is meticulously designed for optimal performance and built for luxurious and timeless cruising.
Co-listed with Seal Cove Boatyard/Metinic Yacht Brokers, Night Train is located in the Penobscot Bay region of Maine, Seal Cove Boatyard, and available for viewing by appointment.
Night Train
During the summer, Night Train is actively sailed for a few hours, five days a week. In the winter, the yacht is laid up, and any necessary work is thoroughly undertaken each year. The professional captain has worked closely with the owner to implement a meticulous and proactive maintenance program and no expense has been spared in maintaining and upgrading wherever needed. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a worldwide capable cruiser that is in excellent condition and ready to cruise to faraway places.
Night Train is the most appealing of the Sou'wester 51's currently available on the market. As the lightest displacing Hinckley 51 ever built, she ensures impressive speed on the water. She can sleep up to 5 guests in 3 staterooms. The generous cockpit is well suited for cruising or when relaxing at anchor at the end of the day.

The satin-varnished cherry bulkheads and trim, gloss-varnished teak and holly sole, and white galley countertops create a refined aesthetic, complemented by the white overhead with cherry trim work. Stepping into the cabin from the cockpit, the galley is situated to starboard, immediately aft of which is the updated navigation station. Further aft, is the quarter berth to starboard. Opposite the nav area, to port, is the owner's cabin with an ensuite head and shower. Forward is the salon, with a passage leading to the v-berth. The second head and shower are situated on the port side.
