Description

Nauticat 33 – “Elizabeth”

Elizabeth is an excellent example of the highly regarded Nauticat 33, a proven Pacific Northwest cruising motor-sailor known for comfort, durability, and all-weather capability. She has been owned for many years by an experienced yachtsman and has benefited from consistent professional maintenance and thoughtful upgrades. This vessel is clean, functional, and ready to cruise.

While clearly a true motor-sailor, the ketch rig allows for excellent balance under sail and provides enjoyable sailing performance when conditions allow. Nauticat 33s were built from 1967 through 1996, with more than 1,100 vessels produced—an enduring testament to the strength of the design.

Construction

The Nauticat 33 is built with solid fiberglass hull and deck construction, with no coring. This eliminates common concerns associated with deck core saturation, particularly under teak decks. While heavier than many modern boats, this construction provides exceptional strength and long-term durability.

Layout & Accommodations

  • Forward and aft staterooms

  • Dinette and galley down

  • Exceptionally large pilothouse measuring approximately 10.5 ft fore-and-aft x 7.5 ft abeam

  • Numerous windows, ports, and hatches—most renewed or replaced

  • Large opening pilothouse skylight (approx. 29” x 52”) providing outstanding light and ventilation

Berths are over six feet in length. Headroom is approximately 5’10” forward, 5’7.5” aft, and 6’3” at the helm.
Additional sleeping accommodations include:

  • Convertible dinette berth (48” x 75”)

  • Pilothouse sea berth (22” x 92”)

Mechanical & Systems

  • 90 HP Lehmann diesel engine

  • Bow thruster

  • Electric windlass

  • Recent Garmin autopilot

  • All systems currently operational

Heating & Galley

  • Espar forced-air diesel heater (recently rebuilt)

  • Engine-driven radiator heating system in the pilothouse

  • Force 10 three-burner stove/oven

  • Isotherm refrigeration

Electronics

  • Garmin autopilot

  • Coastal Explorer (Rose Point) charting software on PC monitor

  • Wind instruments

  • Depth sounder

  • VHF radio

Recent Upgrades & Maintenance

The current owner has invested extensively in the vessel over the past decade. Notable improvements include:

  • 250 ft new anchor chain

  • Windlass rebuild

  • New water pumps

  • New upholstery

  • New inverter

  • New autopilot

  • New bilge pumps

  • Ports and hatches replaced

  • Fuel tanks cleaned

  • New AGM batteries

  • LED lighting throughout

  • Stove/oven replaced

  • New 17-gallon water heater

  • New awnings

  • New genoa

  • Rebuilt hydraulic systems

  • And more

Summary

At just over 33 feet, Elizabeth offers exceptional cruising capability in a compact, easily managed package. She is a well-maintained, well-equipped example of this classic motor-sailor design and represents an excellent opportunity for extended Pacific Northwest cruising or coastal passagemaking.
