Description

New to the market and a beautiful, well cared for example of one of only five aft cockpit Bristol 45.5's built!

The Bristol 45.5 is one of the second-generation designs by Ted Hood and Dieter Empacher and built by New England’s Bristol Yachts. Dieter Empacher was the lead naval architect and deserves much of the credit for these fantastic yachts.

The 45.5 model began production in 1979 and ran until 1990. In 1989 it was replaced with the 47.7, which utilized the same hull mold with a couple of modifications at the stern. The 47.7 remained in production until 1997, when the company closed. In total there were 75 hulls built of both models.

With only about five built, this aft cockpit version of the 45.5 is a very rare find, making it a very desired opportunity. Among other things, it is known for it's amazing 6'7" headroom, several inches higher than it's center cockpit counterpart- and higher than most boats out there in this size. Ted Hood’s magic created a very capable and comfortable blue water yacht, prioritizing offshore cruising, with two quarter berths near the cockpit, a navigation area, a galley, and a dry aft head for convenience from the helm. With the berths and nav so close to the helm the helm, communication is easy between the captain and crew.

Combined with her shoal draft, the heavier displacement hull form provides great interior volume, a comfortable motion at sea and access to shallow cruising ground normally limited to much smaller yachts. Her quality of construction cannot be matched on today's market; she is a blue water cruiser; she is a very competent performer and has beautiful lines. With her centerboard she is as comfortable sailing to the Azores as she is in the Bahamas. She is a solid ship and one that is easy to handle, solid, comfortable, classy and reliable underfoot. She feels safe...

INDY’s owners have loved her as a family member for many years- and it shows. She is tidy, clean, and the woodwork shines in every cabin! Time marches on and sadly now they must part with her. “INDY” presents a unique opportunity for someone to own this rare beauty. Call to make an appointment to see her today- she won’t last long!!!
