Description
Angela II – Max Oertz Classic from 1906
A rare opportunity to acquire a piece of Prussian sailing history
We offer Angela II for sale, built in 1906 and designed by Max Oertz & Harder in Hamburg – one of the most important German shipyards of the early 20th century. The yacht is part of the famous “Angela” series commissioned by Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm of Prussia, the eldest son and heir apparent to Kaiser Wilhelm II, between 1904 and 1912. Of the six “Angelas” built, five were constructed by Max Oertz. Today, only Angela I, Angela IV, and Angela II, which is offered here survived. The Sonderklasse was introduced in 1899 by Germany’s last emperor, Wilhelm II, and was the first construction class built according to a formula—an innovation that went on to inspire the entire regatta landscape.
Following a big refit, Angela II presents herself in excellent condition and has since been sailed twice at the Havelklassik. The hull is made of cedar wood, finished in classic blue. Her distinctive high gaff rig gives the yacht the authentic and elegant appearance of an imperial-era racing yacht.
