A Bluewater Cruiser With A Shallow Keel

British boat builder Oyster Yachts builds the finest blue ocean sailing yachts in the world and is highly respected by sailing professionals. Recently the shipyard announced the 805 at a private event held at London’s St. Katharine Docks to celebrate the announcement of the 805, which sits between the 745 and the 885 series II. The highly- anticipated arrival of the first Oyster 805 unit is expected to be delivered in 2027.

The British builder is renowned for its strong brand loyalty among well seasoned explorers who want to carry out circumnavigations and extended voyages on a seaworthy, high-performance yacht. This 805 does exactly that, only with the added benefit of volume with the option of a shorter keel which allows it to reach more remote shallow anchorages and to get closer to shore, since it meets the Mediterranean’s seagrass regulations, unlike most superyachts. Owners can choose between a standard keel with 11.2 feet of draft, or a shortened 8.75-foot keel.

This new design of the 805 model builds upon the long and successful partnership with naval architects Humphreys Yacht Design, who dreamed up the unique combination of three sets of seascape windows, larger hull ports and increased window sizes in the saloon.

Layout and Accomodation

The 805 can be configured to make four staterooms or three staterooms and a dedicated home office equipped with the latest technology, infotainment, satellite and WIFI making it possible to work remotely. Other the technological advancements include the latest navigation, entertainment, and black box monitoring systems, which are seamlessly integrated with OysterCommand. The switching system controls all the main system controls, via touchscreen or the Oyster app.

To the center of the cockpit is a dining table for alfresco dining that converts into a large daybed with a starlight bimini. New wing seats are integrated into the coaming to provide improved visibility at the helm.

Not an inch of deck space is wasted, with modular designs at every juncture. Of example, typically where the tender sits would be dead space. But on the 805, the forward deck is adaptable, with a recessed tender that can be transformed into a sunken lounge. A solar hardtop generates three kilowatts of solar power, a feature available across Oyster’s entire range.
