A High-Performance Trawler-Style Cruiser With Panache

Traveling passages should not be an experience to endure, but an experience to enjoy. Long-distance cruisers do not have to dawdle at 8 knots. Nor do they have to forgo the touches of luxury amenities commonly afforded to superyachts.

Grand Banks’s new-era of performance yacht debunks common beliefs about classic ocean-going cruisers, often perceived as safe ‘old ladies’ that deliver on range and compromise on speed. The new-wave of Grand Banks delivers faster cruising speeds of 28 knots and offers an extended range of 2000 nautical miles while traveling at ten knots, to enable wanderlust-thirsty owners to pack in more adventure in luxury and style. It makes an ideal yacht choice for cruising the Caribbean.

The classic style intrinsically synonymous with Grand Banks’ trawler cruisers continues to attract a discerning clientele who want to enjoy easy handling and maneuverability ‘whatever-the-weather’.

Grand Banks Yachts pioneered the American trawler cruising yacht, a legacy that dates back to 1956. These ocean-going trawler cruising yachts are designed for traveling long passages in comfort. The original Grand Banks classics and the famous downeast style cruisers of the Eastbay series popularized the American trawler style.

Built on the success of the hugely in-demand Grand Banks 60, launched in 2017, the GB62’s larger interior volume provides the capacity for a luxurious three-stateroom, three-head layout, with an enlarged guest bedroom and the welcome addition of a utility room.

The cherry on top of the cake is that, despite the spacious rooms and amenities, the GB62 can achieve top speeds in the mid 30-knot range, depending on your engine choice. Standard power options include a Twin Volvo D13, rated at 900-horsepower each on straight shafts, with Twin Disc MGX5096A marine transmissions. If you want to bolster your power, you can opt for twin VolvoD13s with shaft drives rated at 1,000-horsepower each, or Volvo IPS 1200S rated at 900-horsepower each.

An extended range of 2,000 nautical miles with 10-percent reserve at 10 knots means that owners can take their adventures further ashore. Designed for fuel-efficiency, Grand Banks estimate that the GB62 uses half of the amount of gas compared with motor yachts of a comparable size. The GB62 can reach plane speed quickly thanks to the blade-like bow that splits the seas like a knife through butter, providing a quiet and soft ride with responsive handling in all conditions. The V-Warp® Technology developed in-house by CEO and Chief Designer Mark Richards provides the hull's enhanced hydrodynamics and performance thanks to a fine bow entry, midship curvature and minimal deadrise on the transom, reducing drag, and improving buoyancy, stability and lift. The technology utilizes lightweight and durable materials such as superior e-glass, grade-A epoxy resins and carbon fiber.

Layout And Accommodation

The additional interior volume of the GB62 allows for an enlarged starboard guest stateroom with an en suite head, a double bed and a single fore-and-aft, as well as a utility area that incorporates a standard washer/dryer. There is also room for a standard AB Inflatables RIB. Several interior layouts are available to suit the owners needs and lifestyle.

A starboard enlarged guest cabin features an en suite head to maximize cruising comfort. Amidships is a master stateroom with a king bed and an en suite head with large shower and generous storage. An overhead hatch and ports provide streams of natural light and ventilation. Forward, the VIP stateroom is outfitted with a queen berth, storage for extended cruising, and dedicated head.

On the main deck, large windows provide panoramic views, flooding the helm area, and aft galley in natural light. The line of sight from the lower helm and the companion helm to port provide easy handling in rough seas or during a night passage.
