Extreme 795 Walkaround Review: Rock Solid Aluminum Rig
Extreme Boats goes to the extreme with new model
Most people don’t do sea trials of a 26’ boat in 5-6-foot seas, but Ryan Evans and Lucas Sockacki from Parma Marine in Parma, Ohio didn’t blink. They are used to the washing machine-like waters on Lake Erie, so heading out into Hillsboro Inlet on a chilly winter’s day didn’t phase them--they were in shorts and flip-flops with big grins on their faces.

We were game for the demonstration of the new Extreme Boats aluminum powerboat, built by Legacy Marine and imported from New Zealand, where rough water is a common expectation. Unique Build Quality
The Extreme 795 Walkaround is constructed from industrial 5083-grade aluminum, giving it a durable and lightweight structure. Its painted hull closely resembles fiberglass, appealing to boaters who prioritize aesthetics without sacrificing durability.

The standout feature of these boats is their meticulous welds, showcasing the artistry involved in their construction. With sizes ranging from 17’ to 33’, and even plans for a 70-footer, Extreme Boats offers customization options that suit a variety of boating needs. Legacy Marine, the builder, also produces aluminum cruising catamarans, highlighting their versatility in design and manufacturing.
Performance in Rough Seas
The deep-V hull with reverse chines provides a smooth, dry ride, even in challenging conditions. During our sea trial, the boat navigated 5-6-foot seas with ease. The protected cockpit, wrapped windshield, and windshield wipers kept us dry, making it an ideal choice for the Great Lakes or Pacific Northwest, where extending the boating season is essential.

For warmer climates, the cockpit features a DC air-conditioner, side-vented windows, and optional sunroof or top hatches for added ventilation. Powered by twin Mercury 200 HP engines, the 795 Walkaround achieves a top speed of 53-55 mph. While a 300 HP engine is an option, it is deemed unnecessary due to the boat’s lightweight construction and efficient performance.

Innovative Features
Extreme Boats includes several standout features that enhance functionality and safety:
- Saywinch: This Australian windlass anchor wraps the chain around a drum, keeping the anchor locker neat and organized.
- Seakeeper Ride: An auto stabilizer replaces traditional trim tabs, maintaining the boat’s attitude in rough conditions.
- Flooded Keel: This unique feature fills the keel with seawater for added stability. It acts as ballast, improving the ride without affecting the deck’s dryness.
- Convenient Clean-Up: Port and starboard outside flushes enable quick fish haul clean-ups, using water sprays that don’t wet the floor.
- Broad Access: A wide ladder and rails on both port and starboard provide safe and easy water entry, with an optional swing door for divers.
