Pearson Composites will introduce the new Alerion Sport 33 this June. Billed as a faster version of their Alerion Express 33, this new gentlemen’s daysailer is likely to turn heads for more than just its good looks.
Chances are you’ve seen an Alerion Express on the water and admired the sheer, the overhangs and the grace with which they glide through the water. Designed to be single or short handed, Alerions remind us of days when sailing was simpler and therefore more people would be found on any given afternoon enjoying a civilized daysail.
Today, the Alerion Express line includes models from 20 – 38 feet. The new Sport version was created with a lighter displacement to be a true performer, especially downwind with its asymmetrical spinnaker. All lines are led through deck tunnels to clutches or cleats and within the reach of the helmsperson. The tiller will provide quick feedback on the course and boxes on either side of the companionway will keep lines neat and organized. The carbon mast and rod rigging also underscore the idea that this is a serious boat that’s designed to be light and fast.
The cockpit is long and roomy as you can see in the picture of the deck plug just unveiled last week. The port seat locker has an optional built-in cooler while the starboard side provides storage for just about everything else.
Down below there is room to sleep four and a separate head, and a 20 HP Sail Drive keeps the Sport 33 powered when the wind disappears.
