Description
NOTE: THIS MODEL IS AVAILABLE FOR NEW CONSTRUCTION. THIS IS NOT AN ADVERTISEMENT FOR A BROKERAGE BOAT.
The Nordhavn 475 is a traditional mid-size passagemaking yacht. She is based on the Nordhavn 43 hull yet presents a much different look and feel from her predecessor. Thanks to a completely new deck and flybridge, the N475 not only has a more streamlined profile, she provides more room throughout the interior and exterior of the boat. This translates to a very large couple’s yacht with two- or three-cabin layout.
The N475 follows in the footsteps of the Nordhavn 52, the Nordhavn 60 and 63, the 68, 76 and 96 models – all of which expanded upon existing hulls and surpassed them in popularity. “Despite what critics maintain, anytime you lengthen a boat, you improve its performance,” said Pacific Asian Enterprises’ vice president Jim Leishman.
Esthetically, the incorporation of the extended cockpit and boat deck give the N475 a more modernized profile, keeping in line with the latest Nordhavn models. Functionality is enhanced – outdoors via gains in social spaces and up top for tenders and toys; and inside with a two-foot bump in the saloon, engine room and lazarette each.
Contributing to the contemporary look is the windshield which has been upgraded to one seamless piece of glass.
Despite her roots in the 43 hull, the “pocket passagemaker” label given to smaller Nordhavns doesn’t seem to apply here. While she retains the economy and manageability of a mid-range cruiser, the N475 feels much bigger than her size. In fact, she is probably better described as a mini-big Nordhavn due to the major impact the space advantages have on the overall feel. In addition to a bigger saloon and more storage, the pilothouse benefits with a significant off-watch berth behind the helm table and bench. Even the purchase process conveys that of a larger Nordhavn reflected in the similar customizeable options buyers have when speccing her out including choices in wood, fabrics, tile and layout. Small details like horizontal grain wood surfaces and loose furniture (easy chairs in lieu of built-in settee in the saloon) give a more polished feel.
The bigger boat mood is also conveyed in the back deck of the 475, large enough for serious relaxing with room for chairs, table and optional built-in BBQ.
Perhaps the greatest benefit of the deck extension is realized in the quietness of the boat underway. More length in the cockpit allowed the running gear to be re-engineered – aimed at providing a steadier ride. Through the incorporation of a bigger, Nordhavn-style strut, cavitation is all but eliminated and the result is a smooth, peaceful cruise.
Unlike the N43, the 475 is available as a flybridge-only model. With two individual chairs and a bench seat, this proper flybridge (which is integral to the deck mold) offers a bonus place to enjoy surroundings and an ideal spot for operating the boat in the fresh air and with unobstructed visibility. (She also comes with an optional hard-top bimini.) Easily accommodating two couples+, the N475 comes with two staterooms and two heads standard, (plus the off-watch berth). A twin berth to port and single to starboard give the guest room some versatility. “She is a practical couple’s boat,” said Jim Leishman. “She’s a very comfortable size – big enough for a couple to host another couple or a few guests without the boat feeling at all overcrowded, and certainly easily handled by two people.”
Powered by a single-engine John Deere 4045 180 hp, she’s got a 3,000 nm range at about 7 knots. The N475 is typically a dry stack boat with the FRP included as standard.
