Description
2002 Lyman-Morse Monhegan 30: Halcyone
Beautifully drawn, and executed with impeccable craftsmanship, this example of the Monhegan 30 will turn heads and draw admiration anywhere she goes. True to her Downeast roots, her lines echo the workboats and yachts that have cruised these waters for generations, yet she has a timeless elegance which separates her from the fleet.
The composite build, consisting of fiberglass in epoxy resin and foam sandwich construction, which is bolstered by aluminum structure in key locations makes for a fast cruising hull which handles the afternoon chop with grace and comfort. She cruises very economically around 18-20kts and will happily run all day up to 24kts, with top speed of around 28kts. With her single jet drive and all mechanical controls, she is a joy to pilot and rewards the discerning helms person with incredible maneuverability. Picnics are made effortless. Drop the self-deploying anchor with the windlass controls at the helm, before heading ashore with the inflatable carried on the swim platform in discrete Davis brackets. Her simple, yet robust, navigation electronics consist of updated Raymarine plotter, radar, and sounder, along with Icom VHF radio and AIS receiver.
Halcyone is a one owner vessel which has never once wanted for care and maintained from day one, has always been a one season boat, always enjoyed indoor heated storage, and continues to stun. She has benefited from Captain Management and oversight for the past 10 years. While this boat does show beautifully, and her original AwlGrip paint still shines with luster, there are some areas of burn through on the very corner of the starboard quarter and some other signs of a full life of loving use. With this said, for the most part, these bits of character require a close look to see and her new owners could enjoy many more years with what is largely still a beautiful finish.
Halcyone is currently in the midst of her annual winter maintance routine, which will be completed this year as normal and included in the sale. Some photos show the condition of the bottom and jet drive in varying states of prep prior to being refinished. The custom mixed green bottom paint has been dutifully sanded and painted every year. Here you see signs of failed adhesion and build up. The bottom will receive special attention this winter season to amend these issues and renew her bottom paint. The Hamilton Jet drive will have the entire tail piece and components stripped down and serviced with new components and greased as needed prior to the exterior being prepped and repainted, just as it has every year since being launched in 2002.
Having spent her entire life on Penobscot Bay, Halcyone has been the centerpiece of untold joy and family memories of summers well spent. She is ready to do the same for her next owners!
