Highly Reluctant Sale due to Owner of Past 18 Year's Relocation
Please see Upgrade History (below) to fully Appreciate this Unique Yacht
The phrase "must be seen" is highly overused but never has it been more accurate than in the case of this very special Tollycraft 40 Sundeck. It is hard to imagine a finer or better cared for and upgraded example that is reluctantly for sale due to the seller's relocation out of state and away from coastal waters. A partial list of the care this yacht has received is below and further very extensive documentation is available by request.
Years after production ceased Tollycraft yachts are highly regarded by knowledgeable surveyors and experts and continue to be praised in industry buying guides. Here is how the 40 Sundeck is reviewed in the modern industry press : "A versatile and well-regarded boat the Tollycraft 40 Sundeck is a modern double-cabin cruising yacht with attractive styling, a first-rate interior layout, and high-quality construction. Like all Tollycrafts of her era, sherides on an efficient modified-V hull with a relatively wide beam and a shallow keel for increased directional stability. Offered with V-berths in the forward stateroom and a spacious aft stateroom, the interior is completely finished with well-crafted teak woodwork, and a lower helm station was a popular option in northern climates. The galley and dinette are down, separated from the salon by a serving counter. Topside, the full-width aft deck is a capable entertainment platform, and bench seats flank the helm on the flybridge."
To fully appreciate this yacht she should be seen in person but the 167 HD photos included in this listing along with the 15 minute video shot in high definition will offer an excellent and accurate introduction.
The following is a brief and partial synopsis from the seller regarding the care and upgrades this vessel has enjoyed:
Perfect boat for the “Great Loop”; efficiently cruise at 18kts, or trawl at 10 kts with a Quadra-Lift semi-displacement hull designed by Pacific Coast Naval Architect Ed Monk Sr; able to go under any of the lowest bridges in the great loop including Chicago, IL as is. Renowned for its sea keeping deep water handling.
In 2024 – Pitman Yacht Service, Tarpon Springs, FL – Bottom Work
Haul, pressure wash and sandblast all running gear. Apply “Propspeed” on running gear throughout.
New bottom paint; 2-coats on hull and 3-coats at water line and running gear
New sea strainers AJM Precision Marine.
Changed ball valves to Sea cocks on both engines. Eliminated all excess fittings and leak points. Replaced HD water hose as needed.
Dropped/clean/repacked and reinstalled rudders, drive shafts, cutlass bearings and zinc’s.
Redo the gold stripes around toe rail and around bridge.
Fiberglass gelcoat touchups and painting of door and other trim in 2024
Diesel Engines: Cummins 6BTA- M2 300HP Turbocharged. Simple and easy to maintain and non-electronic. They both run amazingly and have been maintained with an open checkbook.
The port engine was replaced in 2010 due to incorrect o ring installation in the aftercooler. It was replaced with a Cummins remanufactured block and has about 250 hours.
Starboard engine 1834 hours and was purchased direct from Cummings in 2000.
Engines/generator maintenance summer 2025.
After coolers, heat exchangers, transmission coolers, fluids, impellers and filters replaced on all three engines.
Generator recently serviced by Yacht Power, recent battery replacement.
Toilets - Jabsco electrics are extremely reliable; no Vacu-flush on this boat, and can be easily rebuilt on the salon coffee table as has been done several times over the years.
Boat has (2) two Jabsco porcelain electric heads, fore and aft, that are entirely separate with one system not touching the other, including separate holding tanks, water feeds and pump-out ports; the aft system has a 75 Gal tank and the forward system has a 30 Gal tank with each system having (2) ea. separate Flush and discharge macerators.
Both systems are independently plumbed to run from dockside water, on board fresh water or seawater by turning a set of valves under the galley floor for each system independently.
Both Jabsco heads have recently been entirely rebuilt within the last year.
Wash-down onboard system
A wash down hose fitting at the bow pulpit is plumbed to wash the boat with a choice of on-board water, sea water powered from a separate pump with an independent thru hull fitting, or dockside water under local pressure.
6-zone Reverso oil change system for both engines, both transmissions and the generator in engine room.
Overheat protection for all 3 diesel engines!
The Port and Starboard engines have (4) four levels of protection tied to a dual piezo audible and visual alarm panels located at the upper and lower helms which include:
Factory temperature gauges with temperature senders on the intake manifolds with redundancy.
Flow sensors located at the raw water sea strainers (in case you pick up a plastic bag in the water).
Exhaust elbows on both engines and generator have been fitted with “Thermistor” bands that measure “Rate-of-Rise” temps which are tied to the annunciator panels at the upper and lower helms. This means: if either of the three engines have a rise in temperature in a very short duration of time, and event has occurred and alarms go off at both panels located at the upper and lower helms to alert you of an issue. The elbows will spike in heat first in any heat related equipment failure.
An additional temperature sender has been added to each engines factory temperature gauge circuits for redundancy .
Generator – Installed a temperature gauge at the lower helm console to monitor the generator temps under load.
A bilge pump lighted annunciator panel has been installed in the bulkhead by the aft cabin and is designed to be visible from lying in bed in the aft stateroom so that if any of the (4) bilge pump turns on or off, its visibly seen in the dark at any time with an indicator LED light.
HVAC system; 1-16,000 BTU in main salon and 1-16,000 BTU split system in forward and aft stateroom.
All exhaust vents have been replaced.
Systems consistently serviced.
Load shedding, phase isolation and amperage balancing applied.
Dometic “SmartStart” time delayed capacitors were installed so that the A/C’s never start at the same time to prevent in-rush and nuisance tripping of breakers.
Important Note: In the engine room, both condensers, the single thru hull fitting for incoming sea water, the single water circulation pump, single sea strainer and overboard water discharge port is all within 4 feet of each other in the engine room. You can’t get any simpler than this, which means you can repair any problem with the A/C units without moving a foot in the engine room, and there are NO “long and hard to get to” water lines running all over the boat that are inaccessible in the bilge and under the flooring.
The underwater thru hull fitting for raw water intake was fitted with a hinged clam shell screen that can be simply dropped down for cleaning when with the bottom cleaning is done. This eliminates grass being sucked into the sea strainer causing the HVAC units to shut off due to high pressure.
Digital Thermostats have been installed with programable modes for moisture and humidity control.
Windows – All windows are new and recently installed with the exception of the 3 front forward facing windows in the galley which were replaced by the previous owner, and these 3 have been pulled, cleaned, inspected and re-bedded. NO water leaks anywhere and should not require any maintenance for a very long time.
New windows were just installed in the Salon, galley, lower helm, aft stateroom, aft bathroom and sundeck window.
The front 3 front bow windows in the galley were new in 2008. Recently, as mentioned, they were removed and re-bedded along with the installation of the new windows described above.
Thru hull fittings at or close to the waterline – some boats have over 20 penetrations thru the hull, this boat has just (2) two, one for the A/C water discharge and (1) one for the generator exhaust to minimize any potential future issues.
The storage box and TV cabinet on the sundeck is new.
The sofa in the salon is new.
All Coast Guard safety gear is compliant.
The Lewmar heavy duty windless with capstan was upgraded several years ago with all new wiring, 90 amp breaker and includes 3-station controls; upper helm, lower helm and foot controls at the bow pulpit. Sized much larger than needed with 250’ of chain (not rope). Twin anchors included.
Way too many upgrades over time to list.
High quality interior and exterior pathway and convenience lighting.
Marquipt boarding "Sea Stair" with handrails included.
Has a Garmim GMI 10 display and an Airmar PB 200 weather station with no moving parts that gives you instantaneous changes to the weather with visual and accurate orientation of apparent and true wind speed and direction. Also has a built-in WASS GPS engine that gives accurate navigational data as well as Magnetic Variation. Very useful when cruising but especially when docking as you always know where the wind direction and wind speed/gusts are coming from in relationship to the orientation of the boat to the slip.
Has all the equipment and cabling for “XM Weather”; it’s like having your own Doppler radar onboard (Subscription is currently turned off). With the three onboard Garmin Chart plotters, onboard radar, XM Weather and the Airmar PB200 weather station, situational awareness and weather is excellent when cruising.
Note: all (3) Garmin chart plotters on the lower and upper helm are networked together and share all available data; however, the screens can display different data/info as needed for each plotter
