Description
Wey Banks – Grand Banks 42 Classic (1973)
Wey Banks is a very spacious and seaworthy Grand Banks 42 Classic, built with a solid fibreglass hull and renowned for her proven offshore capability. Mechanically, she is in very good condition, with very well maintained engines, while cosmetically she reflects her age and would benefit from ongoing TLC and upgrading - making her an ideal liveaboard or refurbishment project for a capable DIY enthusiast.
The engines are twin Perkins Sabre MTi 225 diesel engines (installed in 2001), cruising comfortably at 10–12 knots. The engine room has been maintained to an extremely high standard.
Cosmetically, some improvement work has already been started. Parts of the superstructure have been refurbished using Toplac paint to enhance her overall appearance; this work would ideally be continued throughout. Some window frames remain wooden and require routine maintenance. Teak trim in places would benefit from renewal or replacement with stainless steel to modernise the look.
The full teak decks were replaced around 2000 and now require attention due to age. There are areas of water ingress associated with the decks, and ideally they could do with being replaced again either in teak or alternatively a synthentic option.
