Jarvis Newman Downeast

Introduction -

"Dragon Lady" is a very proper, classic downeast boat built by Jarvis Newman of fiberglass in 1972 (finished by Joel White) yet modernized by the current owner during his 15 year ownership.  She is not only stylish, but mechanically correct with a 2015 Volvo-Penta 330 hp diesel engine (only 605 hours) and Volvo-Penta electronic engine controls; plus updated electronics including a Raymarine C140 chartplotter; Fusion MS-RA70N digital stereo with Bluetooth, Roxx cell phone charger at helm, and an Icom IC-M45 VHF radio.

Accommodations -

The v-berth forward has Ultra-Suede coverings along with storage areas below; a galley with hot and cold pressure water, 3/4" black slate countertop; Frigoboat 6.4 cu. ft. stainless steel refrigerator with a Coastal Climate Control keel cooler); and a marine head with separate stall shower, a custom hanging locker and  black slate countertop and stainless steel sink.

Cockpit & Deck -

The large cockpit has a wooden swivel helm chair mounted on a pedestal along with a tall wooden companion chair; a large vintage bronze steering wheel; four heavy HDPE Adirondack chairs plus sturdy steps to transom.  Samson posts at the aft corners, along with 12" bronze cleats aft, midship and at the bow. Plus a custom bronze bow rail system and Maxwell electric windlass that handles the 35 lb. CQR made in Scotland.  LED navigation lights including a 3 mile all around light. Sunbrella (toast) canvas side and aft curtains provide comfort in inclement weather. Three opening windshields with quality hardware and wipers. White vinyl SoundDown 1/4" perforated material at cockpit overhead.

Rooftop Equipment -

Dual SunPower 100 watt each marine solar panels (with Victron Energy controls); hand rails, ships bell, Kahlenberg horn, and a Perko electric controlled 12 volt searchlight.  Custom steps to rooftop are remov-able and easily stored below deck. Dual bronze intakes supply fresh air to the engine via 3" piping.

Hull -

The Awlgrip white was applied professionally in 2023; a boarding ladder at transom (stores nicely below the aft deck); separate 50 gal. water tank at forepeak supplies fresh water to head system.  

Tanks -

Two 84 gallon aluminum fuel tanks installed 2013; Two HDPE water tanks (22 & 25) 47 gallons; One 22 gallon HDPE holding tank, pump out only, no overboard discharge is fitted; One 50 gallon fiberglass tank at the forepeak supplies fresh water dedicated to holding tank. All tanks have level sensors at the control panel

Safety -

2 fire extinguishers; 12 life jackets; 1 throwable ring.  6' wood boat hook.
