The 1967 Chris-Craft 38' Commander was the product of a legendary internal design team at Chris-Craft, primarily featuring the work of Fred Hudson and A.W. "Mac" Mackerer.
This was his final major design before retirement, and he engineered it to be heavily reinforced to ensure Chris-Craft’s first foray into fiberglass was indestructible. Reads out at Hull Number 41Â
Known for being solid, "bulletproof" fiberglass. No rot issues in the hull or stringers.
The 1967 Chris-Craft Commander 38 is a classic fiberglass cruiser known for its solid construction, elegant styling, and spacious layout, which set the standard for Chris-Craft's modern boatbuilding era.Â
According to Chris-Craft proprietary prefix system to identify model series and factory locations:Â
- Prefix (FDA): In the Chris -Craft Commander Club's records, the standard 38' Commander Express typically uses FXA. The FDA prefix is associated with the 38' Sedan or Sportfish configurations of the same hull.
- Model Length (38): The "38" immediately following the prefix clearly identifies it as the 38-foot model line.
- Serial Number (3041): For the 1967 model year, Chris-Craft serial numbers for the 38' series typically followed a specific range. For example, 1966 models often used the 3000 series (e.g., 3001–3032), while 1967 models moved into the 4000series.
- 3041 strongly suggests this boat was produced toward the very end of the 1966 production cycle or at the start of the 1967 model year, as factory runs often overlapped calendar years.Â
The specific hull number FDAR383041 helps to indicate its origin, but general information about the model is widely available.Â
