Description
The Volendammer Kwak, also known as the steel botter, is looking for a new owner who can transform it into a sailing houseboat according to their own vision. In recent years, the hull has been lovingly restored with a historical perspective. The old skin has been completely replaced with new steel while retaining the old frames. The superstructure has been extended to the full width to create sufficient living space. Due to the hollow in the ship, there is ample headroom throughout. Despite its limited length, it offers many possibilities for the interior. Are you looking for a compact yet spacious houseboat? Then be sure to come and take a look in Leeuwarden.
History
The ship was built in 1911 as Volendammer Kwak VD 191 'Neeltje'. When the family moved to Heusden, the ship was renamed HSD 1 'Helena'. In 1985, the Eijsdens Verleden Foundation published an article about the van Strien family and the ship Neeltje. The ship then spent some time in the drainage canal in Bosserveld, Maastricht. Subsequently, the following owners restored the ship: a new bottom was added, and most of the steel plates were replaced.
Layout
The exterior has been well maintained, allowing a new owner to fully focus on the interior design. Through the spacious cockpit, you enter the future living area through double doors. With many windows, it is a very bright space with many possibilities. The headroom in the living area is currently about 2 meters. A bathroom and kitchen can be installed according to personal preference. Through a passage, you reach under the foredeck where there is space for at least 2 bedrooms.
Technology
The ship is powered by a Volvo Penta TMD41A, 110 kW, 150 hp, with a Velvet reversing gearbox. There is a diesel tank present of approximately 160 liters. Work has begun on the interior finishing of the ship. Stone wool and glass wool have been used for insulation. To better balance the ship, concrete has been poured on the new bottom of 5mm.
