Manic Monday Video: Trucker's Hitch
Sing it, dance it, tie it: Ylvis elevates the elusive trucker's hitch to mythical status.
September 22, 2014
If Ylvis had watched our boats.com video, they'd know how to tie a trucker's hitch.
Two brothers — Vegard and Bård Ylvisåker — who make up the Norwegian comedy duo Ylvis found success last year (450 million YouTube views, that is) with the comedic song What Does the Fox Say
" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">?. Everyone knows the Norwegians are great sailors, so it’s zero surprise that the Ylvisåker brothers have emerged from their short summer of long days with a new music video in which knots and hitches are the heroes — except for one villain, the trucker’s hitch.
No wonder they’re confused — there are at least three variations on the trucker’s hitch (also known as a wagoner's hitch), plus some imposters out there, and they all have their boosters. One version of the hitch is essentially half of a sheepshank knot; it's valuable to boaters because it holds itself under tension but is very easy to undo.
Now that you've watched the new Ylvis video, watch Doug Logan demonstrate this snappy version of the hitch — it also comes in handy as a party trick, we promise.

Just whether "Trucker's Hitch" will gain the same virality as the brothers' first hit remains to be seen, but it's already gaining momentum. Search for #TruckersHitch on Twitter to read both positive and negative reactions.
