There are boat dealers, distributors and brokers, and there are boat service centers and retailers. Then there is SLT—Sea Land Time, that combines it all for a unique experience on the Fort Lauderdale, Florida marine scene, created to cater to “The Yachting Capital of the World.”

Powerboat Racing Roots


Scot Conrad, a California former offshore powerboat racer with a deep passion for the boat business, Conrad came to Fort Lauderdale with a vision to create a showroom to cater to buying and selling high-end boats. A large space, formerly occupied by a relocated Speed & Truck World, opened on West Sunrise Boulevard, a gentrifying gateway to the city, nearby the Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood Airport. Conrad felt his vision could become reality there, so he gutted the 2-story space in 2018 and started building inventory to cater to the yacht tender and luxury performance market which had an on-going need for tenders.

A Custom Car Lift Maximizes Space


Drawing on his performance community and expanding to yachts, Conrad brought in new and brokerage boats. Since the 29,000 s.f. space offered the room, he also took on some storage for selected clientele, then saw the need for more storage—especially for “Snowbird” and interim South Florida clients’ exotic cars. The upper level was perfect, unused space so Conrad worked with Neptune Boat Lifts to construct an 18’ x 25’ car lift with 7,000-pound capacity and a gate that would fit a car, raising each one effortlessly up 16 feet. Voila! Someone could store a car in a climate-controlled, hurricane resistant facility with 24-hour surveillance, buy or trade a boat and get service.

Pandemic Results In New Endeavors


And then the pandemic hit and Conrad’s other California business, Watch Expo, built on his passion for exclusive time pieces, was forced to close retail operations. “Time” was now added to the equation and hence Sea Land Time, “The SLT Collection” became the official name for the operation that caters to yacht captains, their yacht owners, performance aficionados and anyone visiting Fort Lauderdale who wants to see a collection of interesting new and brokerage boats. While there, inquire about service, storing a car—or buying or selling a high-end watch.

Canados & Gladiator Series: High Performance Boats

SLT Collection became the North America distributor for Canados Yachts’ and its performance model, the Gladiator series, created by fellow offshore racer Michel Karsenti who bought the Rome-based shipyard several years prior. SLT also represents the Ohio-based Airship fiberglass RIB, created by championship offshore racer Jim Dyke and the performance catamaran brand, Doug Wright. More recently, SLT added the burgeoning Norwegian-built Goldfish brand to its distribution list. A wide range of performance boats like Nor-Tech, MTI, Mystic and Midnight Express may also be seen in this international motoryacht brokerage, service and retail center.

Penchant For Performance: Goldfish Boats Added


Yes, Conrad and his partner, Paul Burgess, who came from a background with Sunseeker Yachts, have a penchant for performance, they focus on supplying the right boat for the right use. Goldfish fit that new demand for hot-looking, performance tenders and with the new 23T and 28T sleek fiberglass models with a rugged rubber rub rail in inventory, SLT is expanding to add a 34’ X10 Scout RIB to add diversity to this efficient and smooth handling model line.

As the Goldfish brand gains traction in the U.S., SLT plans to add more tenders and performance day boats ranging from 23-49’. “I followed Goldfish Boats for several years and when people experience their speed, efficiency and how they track, I think we’re going to see demand here!” states Conrad.

Premium Luxury Watch Brands


To further enhance the services offered, SLT’s Design Center provides a comfortable lounge area where clients can choose upholstery, leather, wood, paint colors and finishes for their new builds. They can also discuss plans for present and future boats, yachts and of course, time pieces they wish to buy, trade or upgrade. The Watch Expo shop has its own retail location within the showroom with Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe and Rolex being the features, with other top brands like Hublot and Breitling, frequently available.

"SLT Tailor Made" Upholstery Center


The next SLT project is the addition of the luxury upholstery center, “SLT Tailor Made,” coming to the U.S. from a friend’s shop in Modena, Italy, that handles Ferrari’s special custom projects. “SLT Tailor Made” will offer top-quality leathers and finishes for new vessel customization or for retrofits of existing cars or boats. The shop will be run by Conrad’s daughter, Lexi Conrad, keeping it all in the family as his son Max also works onsite, handling sales, sea trials—and whatever else is on the day’s agenda.

“We can offer a variety of services and products, easily accessible in one place, to facilitate the needs of visitors or residents of South Florida who have the need for an extra touch, that special detail to make their boat or car ‘theirs,’” says Conrad.

SLT has evolved from a vision to a destination for the discerning vessel or vehicle owner or buyer and if whatever that person wants is not yet in the showroom, chances are that Conrad or Burgess know where or how to get it. “It’s an easy stop on the way to or from the airport,” Conrad laughs, “We’re always happy to entertain our friends, their friends and customers and invite new clients—if it pertains to Sea, Land or Time, we’ve got the time!”
