VONORE, Tenn. — After being replaced by a stunt exhibition three years ago, one of the world longest running and highest flying waterskiing shows is returning to Six Flag's Marine World in Vallejo, Calif. Called "Ski Xtreme," the show begins March 16 and features ten athletes and four MasterCraft ProStar tow boats.
According to a press release from MasterCraft, Marine World's Lake Chabot has hosted a variety of MasterCraft sponsored ski shows, water-ski tournaments and even the Pro Tour since the early 1960s. In 1999, the park discontinued its ski show schedule and replaced with it a stunt show called "Batman Water Thrill Spectacular," which ran for three seasons. The ski show is back, according to the theme park officials, by popular demand.
"Our research shows that people want the ski show back," said Kirk Smith, group director of Marine World promotions and advertising, in the press release.
Beginning on March 16, two teams at the show will "go head-to-head" in a competition of high-speed slalom, trick skiing, ski jumping, barefooting, wakeboarding, hydrofoiling and para-sailing.
"Along with Florida's Cypress Gardens, Marine World has been one of the most popular and well-attended ski shows in the world," said Rob May, MasterCraft's director of marketing, said in the release. "We're happy to bring the excitement of water ski shows back to the Bay Area."
