img8920Michael Kahn, the highly respected photographer known for his luminous black-and-white photographs of classic sailing vessels and seascapes, will present his newest portfolio of photographs during a traveling show to be held in eight US cities between April and November of this year.

The show consists of photographs taken at the Falmouth Classic and the America's Cup Jubilee, both held in England last year.

The Pennsylvania-based photographer captured many of the finest traditional fishing vessels under sail during the Falmouth event. These vessels, commonly referred to as "work boats," include shrimpers, crabbers, and oyster boats. At Falmouth, the boats race for a period of one week in fierce competition with one another, and Kahn secured spectacular photographs during these races.

img8919In sharp contrast to the Falmouth event and its utilitarian work horses, the 2001 America's Cup Jubilee race draws hundreds of the world's traditional sailing yachts. Thoroughbreds all, the group consisted of J-Class sloops, classic sailing yachts, and old and new America's Cup boats. The yachts came from around the world for the largest assemblage of classic and modern boats ever held. Kahn took over 2,000 staggeringly crisp exposures while coping with the difficult conditions of high seas and gale-force winds.

img8918The portfolio of 20, 19x19 inch photographs are printed in Kahn's signature presentational style. He hand prints each image creating a sepia-toned, silver gelatin photograph. It allows him to produce pictures of exquisite luminosity for which he has won many accolades over the years.

In the coming months, Kahn and his extraordinary collection of marine photography will journey to these East Coast cities:
