The fifth M29 Series “Widebody” catamaran was delivered recently by Dave's Custom Boats, and hull No. 6 is in the mold, according Tony Chiramonte of the El Cajon, Calif., custom catamaran and V-bottom company. That makes the 29-footer the most popular offering in DCB’s “M Series” line of cats, which includes 35- and 41-foot long models.

DCB’s fifth M29 catamaran completed is the third to be outfitted with twin Mercury Racing 565 engines.

The latest finished M29 is powered by a pair of Mercury Racing 565 engines. It is the third model to be equipped with the power package, which comes standard with a one-year warranty. The first M29 was powered by a pair Mercury OptiMax 300XS outboard engines. Set up and propped conservatively, the outboard-powered cat reportedly has topped 90 mph.

"We built three M29s with 565s, one with twin outboards, one with a single 1350 and one coming with a single 700," said Chiramonte. "It's proven to be a nice boat with either a single engine or twins."

Depending on propellers, the twin 565-engine-powered M29 should top out in the 120-mph range. The boat, which is equipped with the latest Mercury Vessel View 7 system at the dash, was built specifically for Northcoast Performance Marine, a DCB dealer in Canton, Ohio. Dave Hargrove, the dealership’s owner, debuted the 29-footer on Kentucky's Lake Cumberland.

"We custom-built it for Dave and it came out beautifully," Chiaramonte said. "He's done such a great job for us.”

Currently in lamination, M29 No. 6 is headed for a buyer in South Africa.
