ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — The first of four Georgia Governor's Cup Series events — the Golden Isles Striking Fish Tournament — concluded May 5 on St. Simons Island with the Lazy Bonz fishing team of Savannah taking first place.

Team members James Dewberry, Jimmy Dewberry, Barney Padcrewski, Sam Peters, Chris Cook and Craig Stalnaker tallied 571.64 points during two days of fishing out of Golden Isles Marina. Their catch included a blue marlin release (worth 400 points), a 54.52-pound wahoo, two dolphin totalling 81.51 pounds and a 35.61-pound tuna.

The TJ Hooker placed second among the 12-boat field with a 17.08-pound wahoo, 32.23- and 20.01-pound dolphin, and 35.79- and 42.27-pound tunas. The team earned 147.38 points.

Cash prizes were awarded the winners. The top lady angler, Laura Kyle aboard Trash Man, and the top junior angler, Nathan Younger on Buckaroo, won framed paintings by local artist Charles Maley.

Top boats will compete in the annual shootout against entries from North and South Carolina.
