The Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has scheduled a series of public workshops regarding Florida's west coast snook fishery regulations. The commission is interested in receiving input on possible changes to snook fishing rules on the state's west coast, including reducing the bag limit, altering the open seasons or changing the slot size.
The commission is conducting these workshops in response to concerns expressed by fishermen and guides on Florida's west coast. The commission is not considering changing any snook management rules on the state's east coast.
Commissioners and staff are encouraging the public to take advantage of these workshops to share information and opinions with rulemakers. Workshops will take place:
- Fort Myers: 6-9 p.m. July 9, State of Florida Regional Service Center, Room 165 C&D (West Wing), 2295 Victoria Ave.
- Naples: 6-8:30 p.m., July 10, County Government Complex, board room, 3301 Tamiami Trail.
- St. Petersburg: 6-9 p.m. July 11, Florida Marine Research Institute, Third Floor, 100 Eighth Ave. S.E.
Any disabled person requiring special accommodations to participate in this workshop should advise the agency at least five calendar days before the workshop by contacting Andrena Knicely at (850) 487-1406. Hearing-impaired or speech-impaired persons should contact the agency by calling (850) 488-9542 to arrange special accommodations to participate in the meeting.
