Responding to requests made by the public to conduct evening or weekend meetings, the California Fish and Game Commission announced it will hold its second Saturday meeting as part of a two-day schedule Aug. 3-4, in Sacramento.
Commission President Mike Chrisman said the commission looks forward to increased public participation on Saturday as it receives public recommendations for the 2002-2004 sport fishing regulations.
Both meetings will be held in the Resources Building Auditorium, 1416 Ninth Street, Sacramento.
Commissioner Michael Flores, in attending his first commission meeting early last year, was intrigued with the request made by several sportsmen. He convinced fellow commissioners to select one or two meetings which would include a Saturday when considering this year's schedule. The first Saturday meeting was held Feb. 3. The commission normally schedules its special hearings during the evenings.
The Aug. 3 meeting, which begins at 9 a.m., will include discussions on:
- A request by the Pacific Coast Federation of Fishermen's Associations for an experimental salmon troll fishery in San Francisco Bay.
- The California Department of Fish and Game's request to extend an emergency regulation on the incidental take of coho salmon during its candidacy period.
- A request by the Center for Biological Diversity for emergency action to list the California Tiger Salamander as endangered.
- Possible emergency action to close the commercial greenling fishery or adjust its quota.
- Possible emergency action to allow retention of hatchery marked coho salmon from Oregon.
On Aug. 4, the meeting begins at 8:30 a.m., and the commission will hear discussions on:
- Recommendations from the public and DFG for changes in the 2002-2004 sport fishing regulations.
- A recommendation from DFG on the commission's regulation for display of sport fishing licenses.
- Public testimony on proposed changes for 2001-2002 migratory game bird (waterfowl) and commercial herring fishery regulations.
- DFG's draft white seabass fishery management plan.
