POLK CITY, Fla. — USA Water Ski released the roster for the 2002 U.S. Veteran Water Ski Team following the completion of the 2002 U.S. Veteran Water Ski Team Trials, June 29-30, in Lawton, Mich. The American Water Ski Association's International Activities Committee named Anne Bennett of Zachary, La.; Cyndi Benzel of Groveland, Fla.; Sherron McClintock of Lake Worth, Fla.; and Mike Meek Albany, Ohio to the team based on their performances at the two-round team trials.The team will compete at the 2002 Pan American Water Ski Championships, November 27-December 1, in Santiago, Chile.
The Pan American Water Ski Championships is a biennial event featuring teams from North America, South America and the Caribbean. A U.S. Junior Water Ski Team and U.S. 17 to 21 Water Ski Team — to be selected this coming weekend — will also compete at the event.
"Congratulations to the members of the 2002 U.S. Veteran Water Ski Team for their tremendous performances at the veteran team trials," said USA Water Ski executive director Steve McDermeit. "This fine group of athletes is sure to raise the bar at the 2002 Pan American Water Ski Championships."
The veteran team trials were held in conjunction with the West Michigan Record Tournament, sponsored by the Field of Dreams Skiers at Arilyt Lake. Eight athletes vied for a place on the 2002 U.S. Veteran Water Ski Team. To be eligible for the U.S. Veteran Water Ski Team, athletes must be at least 35 years of age and meet the minimum performance qualifications set forth by the IAC.
