The Oceanis 423, unveiled in 2002, is based on the design of Beneteau’s successful 473 and features the latest innovation of Beneteau in the field of cruising pleasure: exceptional lighting thanks to the panoramic hatch and 6’9″ headroom in the saloon, owner’s island berth, ensuite head with separate shower in the fore cabin and a deck plan designed for utmost pleasure under sail or at anchor. “Huaka’i” is the spacious 2-cabin/2-head layout, creating a large double-settee dining area with a galley that opens into a wonderful space that is fully functional, even when underway. In 2003, a Sail Magazine review noted, “the 423’s considerable beam is carried well aft and allows for a wide cockpit; seats are teak trimmed, the coamings are tall enough and angled outboard for comfort, and the walk-through transom makes it easy to board the boat from a dinghy. The deck layout is efficient. Under sail the boat settled into a comfortable groove, was light and responsive to steer, and cut a smooth wake in the light winds of our test. With its smooth helm, surprisingly nimble hull, and attractive features, the 423 successfully offers more for less.” Cruisers will love how well-equipped Huaka’i is, including Raymarine electronic package, 2 solar panels producing a whopping 600 Watts for long periods off-grid, Spectra watermaker, hooka dive compressor, flopper stopper, dinghy and outboard, a huge inventory of UV shades and covers for tropical sailing, and other cruiser-friendly extras, such as: UV dock filtration, dock cart, inflatable stand-up paddle board, and all the fishing gear you will need for casual cruising in Mexico.
