Description
Tradition with temperament — a masterpiece by Blom
There are lemsteraken, and there is the Walrus. Designed by the renowned Skipshelling Blom from Hindeloopen and launched in 2002, this ship symbolizes the perfect balance between classic lines and modern sailing experience. After a thorough refit in 2017, the Walrus presents itself as a state-of-the-art flat-bottomed vessel with a soul.
Construction & Finish
The Walrus is built with a rare eye for detail. The woodwork is exceptionally refined, a masterpiece of craftsmanship. The ash wooden floor with inlays runs like a warm vein throughout the ship, and in every corner, you rediscover the craftsmanship with which this ship has been finished. The salon is spacious and bright, with a practical layout that makes you feel at home right away. A cozy navigation corner and a fully equipped kitchen with handmade tiles bring functionality and atmosphere together.
Layout & Comfort
With five cabins, the Walrus accommodates a larger group without compromising on privacy or comfort. The master cabin features its own wet cell, finished with durable Corian panels. In the passageway, there is a guest cabin with bunk beds and an extra refrigerator on the starboard side. In the forepeak, there are 2 guest cabins with a double bed and a single bed. Everything on board exudes solidity and thoughtfulness.
Technology & Sailing Characteristics
The Walrus is not only beautiful but also technically well cared for. The spacious engine room, finished with tread plate, provides good access to the modern Steyr diesel engine. A hydraulic system supports the winches, making sailing easy and comfortable even with a small crew. The retractable bow thruster ensures perfect maneuverability in harbors or at tricky docking spots.
On the water, the Walrus shows its most elegant side. It lies stable, cuts powerfully through the waves, and can be trimmed effortlessly. Whether you sail across the IJsselmeer for an afternoon or spend a week along the Wadden coast: this is a ship that inspires confidence and invites you to travel.
Conclusion
The Walrus is a class apart. A lemsteraak built on tradition but equipped for the future. It unites aesthetics, comfort, and sailing ease in a way that is rarely encountered. Ideal for those who not only want to sail but also want to enjoy the ship itself.
